The surface of Lake Lipno is used for a number of sports throughout the year. If the conditions are ideal in winter, as was the case this winter, you can skate on the frozen surface. The huge surface of the Lipno Reservoir provides excellent conditions for skating in the winter months. The skating rink from Lipno nad Vltavou to Frymburk was even officially designated as the longest modified skating rink in the world in 2012 and was therefore entered in the Guinness Book of Records. It is almost 11 kilometres long. Lipno usually freezes from December to March, but not always to the point where it is possible to skate on it. If the safety conditions are met, i.e. the ice thickness must be at least 18 cm, the routes in Horní Planá, Frymburk and Lipno nad Vltavou are regularly modified, and in case of favourable conditions they are also interconnected.
