Ostend, Ghent, Sea Life Blankenberge, De Haan and Bruges – Belgium

16.11. – 21.11.2022 Belgium Abroad

Belgium was a big and very pleasant surprise for us. It is strange to write this right at the beginning, but the pleasant surprise was above all the food. I dare to say that Belgian cuisine is one of the best cuisines in Europe. The great taste of all the food we ate here proves it. And it also confirms that many foods that have spread and are very popular throughout Europe and the whole world – such as fries or waffles – originate here. Belgium is also known for its chocolate and beer, or thanks to seafood served in a variety of ways. Their typical Flemish Beef Stew – Carbonnade a La Flamande – is also luxurious.

But so that I don't just write about food. We spent our time on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, in the west of the Flemish Region (Flanders), where there are several wonderful cities with a rich history and amazing architecture. The most famous and most beautiful cities here include, for example, Ghent, Bruges, and Ostend. Each of them has its own unique charm, amazing history and extraordinary energy offering not only unusual experiences but also an exceptional atmosphere. For example, Ghent was an important and prosperous centre in the Middle Ages. In terms of the number of inhabitants, it was then only slightly smaller than Paris. And he basically keeps some of it to this day. And Bruges is often referred to as the "Venice of the North" because it is criss-crossed by a network of canals formed by the River Reie. A boat ride on the city's canals is a popular tourist attraction. Canals also connect Bruges with other cities, such as the aforementioned Ghent.

Thanks to the positives mentioned above, our visit to Belgium was not the last and we will certainly be happy to return here in the future.
