St Anton am Arlberg – Tyrol – Austria

11.9.2021 Austria Abroad

Although we spent these nine days in a relatively small area, we visited so many different and amazing places that, as a result, each of them deserves its own article. The area of westernmost Austria, which borders, among other things, Liechtenstein, was probably one of the most beautiful places in Austria that we have ever visited in Austria. In addition to the enchanting area around Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis it was the aforementioned Liechtenstein; the breathtaking Lüner Lake; the marvelous Kaunertal valley between the Gepatsch-Stausee dam and the Kaunertaler Gletscher with views at the top of Karlesjoch and finally the town of Sankt Anton am Arlberg.

Sankt Anton am Arlberg is a municipality in the district of Landeck in Tyrol. It is by far the busiest ski resort, because of not only the famous après-ski, but also accommodation capacity and transport accessibility from the area. Sankt Anton is located on a major thoroughfare across the Arlberg Pass, 100 km west of Innsbruck, and the Rosanna River flows through it. It is clearly one of the largest ski resorts in Austria, offering visitors around 80 lifts. The highest point of the village is Mount Valluga (2811 m above sea level). Hotelier Carl Schuler was at the birth of local tourism in 1895. The 2001 Alpine Skiing World Championships also took place here. In summer, golf, mountain biking and rafting are available on site.
