The end of November was really beautiful. And it was no different in the surroundings of Zell am See and Kaprun. Of course, if the weather wasn't so wonderful, the overall impressions of this place would probably be worse, but the weather, accommodation and actually this whole area contributed to the fact that we were really excited about this place. The Zell am See-Kaprun region is an ideal starting point not only for hiking and breath-taking ascents to mountain peaks, but also for cyclists, skiers, and people who like sights and water fun. The unique combination of the surrounding glaciers, mountains and lake allows visitors to visit different climate zones in one day; for example, to take a boat ride on the lake in the morning and in the afternoon to ski in the Ice Arena on the Kitzsteinhorn, on a glacier at an altitude of over 3,000 m above sea level. And the next day, for example, to admire the panoramas from the top of the Schmittenhöhe.
Among other things, we visited the local Lake Zell and the surrounding peaks Maiskogel, Kitzsteinhorn and Schmittenhöhe. Each of the peaks is unique in its own way, and from each you can see slightly different mountains on the horizon and slightly different valleys below. Maiskogel is Kaprun's home slope. It also includes a year-round 1,300 m long bobsleigh track. The Kitzsteinhorn is the highest mountain in the area; it is possible to reach a height of 3029 meters with the cable car, where there is a viewing platform. And from the Schmittenhöhe, it is possible to observe both Lake Zell in the valley and the ridge of the High Tauern with the Kitzsteinhorn and the Grossglockner in the distance. The whole region has huge potential and we were so excited that we will be back here again soon.
