After 15 long years, I was able to visit one of the most exotic places in Europe, the island of Madeira, again. And since the island has fortunately not changed much since last time (and yes, there are more hotels and more built-up areas than before), I would just repeat myself and actually everything I wrote in the previous article applies. Thanks to the rented car, we saw many interesting places again; many of them were new and different for me, but overall beautiful and unique. The most beautiful places visited included, for example, the Jardim Botanical Garden, the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, the houses in Santana, the town of Porto da Cruz, the Praia do Porto do Seixal beach, the mysterious laurel forest Fanal Forest, the rock formations on the Ribeira da Janela beach, the São Laurenço peninsula and the town of Caniçal in the east of the island, the natural pools of Porta Moniz, the third highest mountain Pico do Arieiro, the beach Fajã dos Padres with cable car, the Paisagem Protegida da Ponta do Pargo beach with one of the steepest cable cars in the world and the Farol da Ponta do Pargo lighthouse. The catamaran trip to see the whales was also amazing and of course the capital city of Funchal itself. And I must not forget the New Year's Eve fireworks display, one of the most beautiful and largest I have ever seen. It was not for nothing that it was entered in the Guinness Book of Records in the category of the Largest Fireworks Display in the World in recent years. The island really has a lot to offer and I think every avid traveller should visit it at least once in their lifetime – it's definitely worth it!
