Surroundings of Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj and Triglav National Park – Slovenia

1.7. – 3.7.2021 Slovenia Abroad

Although Slovenia was actually just a "transfer station" on the way to Croatia, we spent three wonderful days there. The surroundings of the spa town of Bled, or the area at the foot of the Julian Alps near the Triglav National Park and with the beautiful Bled and Bohinj lakes, surprised us very pleasantly and as a result enchanted us immensely. And not only the local beautiful landscape, but also food or accommodation.

However, the most magical are the above-mentioned lakes. Lake Bled and the town of the same name form a unique natural and photogenic place, which is further enhanced by the island almost in the middle of the lake and the rocky promontory with a castle located just above the lake. On the island, which is named "Blejski Otok", you can see the pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary and the Old Slavic cemetery. Lake Bled is a popular center for water and winter sports. Rowing regattas are held here regularly and the World Rowing Championships have been held here several times. Both lakes, Bled and Bohinj, were formed 14,000 years ago during the retreat of the Bohinj Glacier.

Lake Bohinj is the largest lake in Slovenia, not counting the volatile Lake Cerknica and is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in Slovenia. It is located in a deep valley surrounded by high mountains. Interestingly, during long periods of rain, the level increases by 2 to 3 meters. In summer, the water temperature climbs to 22 ° C, which, together with the cleanliness of the lake, makes it widely used for swimming. And in winter, the lake level turns into a large ice rink.

Those who visit this literally magical place, which is further enhanced by the crystal clear waters of the local lakes and the magical surrounding landscape, will remain full of wonderful and unforgettable memories that they will surely remember for the rest of their lives.
