Although we spent these nine days in a relatively small area, we visited so many different and amazing places that, as a result, each of them deserves its own article. The area of westernmost Austria, which borders, among other things, Liechtenstein, was probably one of the most beautiful places in Austria that we have ever visited in Austria. In addition to the enchanting area around Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis it was the aforementioned Liechtenstein; the breathtaking Lüner Lake; the marvelous Kaunertal valley between the Gepatsch-Stausee dam and the Kaunertaler Gletscher with views at the top of Karlesjoch and finally the town of Sankt Anton am Arlberg.


You can get to the amazing viewpoint at the top of Karlesjoch by a paid scenic road (Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße). The road leads about 5 km along the Gepatsch dam and then through 29 serpentines to the parking lot with a restaurant at an altitude of 2730 m above sea level. From there, with the help of a cable car, it reaches the top of Karlesjoch. There is a viewing platform and at the same time there is a border with Italy, so after getting off the cable car you even find yourself in another country for a while. In addition to the cable car, which ends at 3000 m above sea level on a ridge on the Italian border, where the impassable terrain no longer provides ordinary tourists with the possibility of further wandering, it is possible to walk to the glacier from the parking lot and walk through the glacier fissure. The location is primarily a ski destination, several ski lifts lead to the glacial terrain on the northern slope of the Weißseespitze. The formerly remote and hard-to-reach valley has experienced an increase in tourism in the last hundred years from a few dozen to up to 70000 visitors a year thanks to the construction of an access road and other accommodation options. Thanks to amazing views, a fairytale landscape, steep slopes and a winding road with a large number of bends, you will take away an unforgettable experience from this place, which you will remember for a long time.
