Traunsee, Traunstein

16.4. – 17.4.2011 Austria Abroad

I spent the past weekend in the wonderful surroundings of the Austrian lake Traunsee. I like this period very much because the winter season is already over but the summer season has not yet started, there are very few people in most places and the tourist centers which are crowded at other times are now deserted. In addition, if the weather is wonderful, as it was this Sunday, then it is a fairy tale. Thanks to the very good type of my friend, I went to places around Lake Traunsee, or to the highest peak in its immediate vicinity, Traunstein.
Traunsee is a lake located in the Salzkammergut (Salt Chamber), specifically at its northeastern end, in Austria. It is situated between the rocky Traunstein massif and the Höllengebirge limestone mountain range. It lies on the river Traun. The center of tourism is the town of Gmunden (440 m, 13,000 inhabitants) located at the northern end of the lake.
