Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis – Tyrol – Austria

5.9. – 12.9.2021 Austria Abroad

Although we spent these nine days in a relatively small area, we visited so many different and amazing places that, as a result, each of them deserves its own article. The area of westernmost Austria, which borders, among other things, Liechtenstein, was probably one of the most beautiful places in Austria that we have ever visited in Austria. In addition to the enchanting area around Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis it was the aforementioned Liechtenstein; the breathtaking Lüner Lake; the marvelous Kaunertal valley between the Gepatsch-Stausee dam and the Kaunertaler Gletscher with views at the top of Karlesjoch and finally the town of Sankt Anton am Arlberg.

The communes of the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region lie on a plateau above the Tyrolean valley of the river Inn in an old cultural landscape at an altitude of 1200 – 1400 meters above sea level. The towns of Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis owe more than 2000 hours of sunshine a year to being the sunniest places in all of Tyrol. All villages lie on the so-called Sunny Plateau about 500 m above the level of the Oberinntal valley, on a beautiful southern mountain slope. Since the 1960s, all the local villages have gradually turned into typical mountain villages, which live mainly from tourism. The whole area is interwoven with an incredible number of hiking trails during the summer season, and in winter the whole area turns into an amazing ski resort. We were literally excited about this place and I don't think we were here for the last time. In addition to the perfect service, excellent cuisine and the willingness of the local people (in hotels, at the cable cars, etc.), we also really liked the weather. All this, together with the beautiful landscape here with breathtaking views of the mountain peaks, forms a whole to which one always likes to return.
