Surroundings of the Lake Como – Lombardy – Italy

27.9. – 1.10.2017 Italy Abroad

Lake Como and its surroundings is the less known area of Italy, yet very beautiful and from Bohemia near the distant area. The water of the lake, full of dark colors, along with the surrounding mountains beginning just off its shore and overlying the lake level in many places over 2000 meters, have created a wonderful landscape that will enchant many of the visitors. The most beautiful towns around the lake include Bellagio, Menaggio and the most beautiful spot on the eastern shore of Coma – Varenna. The highest mountain above the lake – Monte Legnone (2609 m above sea level) – is not only a huge elevation (the summit is 2400 meters above the lake), but also a very regular, majestic shape. However, our journey has led to areas near the Swiss border – near Lake Lago di Montespluga and Lake Lugano.

Lake Como (Lago di Como in Italian, also known as Lario, after the Latin name of the lake; Lagh de Còmm in Lombard; Latin: Larius Lacus) is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, Italy. It has an area of 146 square kilometers, making it the third-largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. At over 400 meters deep, it is one of the deepest lakes in Europe, and the bottom of the lake is more than 200 meters below sea level. As a tourist destination, Lake Como is popular for its landscapes, wildlife, and spas. The Lake Como ferry service is a highly developed public transport system linking the many small towns around the Lake.
