Mauritius

26.4. – 8.5.2018 Mauritius Abroad

This was our first visited African country. Although Mauritius belongs to Africa, Africa is far from being there. Namely, the signs of African culture and influence here are, of course, but much greater is the influence of Asian, namely Indian; this is especially true of food, habits and the appearance of local people.

And why was our first visited African country Mauritius? The idea to visit this country came from our friends. Finally, the original group of people changed somewhat, but that did not prevent us from enjoying it extraordinarily. I used the word "extraordinarily" intentionally because one of the highlights of this holiday was our wedding, which we decided to organize here for several reasons. First of all, it's a very romantic place for weddings and not only for them, because we did not travel alone, they had witnesses with us, and on the other, we wanted to have a wedding in some unusual place. Last but not least, it was time to move our relationship a little further.

Mauritius really offers a lot. The incredibly amazing sea is just the pinnacle of many other incredible attractions of this island. Wonderful scenery, interesting people, great food, tranquility, tranquility, a life full of ocean, white beaches, and last but not least, unforgettable experiences – all this and much more left us unforgettable memories of life. Just such a paradise of the Indian Ocean. One of the unforgettable experiences was visiting the local zoo where we were able not only to feed the giraffe, but also to caress the breeders. Mauritius has a very diverse landscape in many respects, fairy-white coastal beaches pass in a deep valley with many numerous waterfalls, green forests and craters in the center of the island. One of the top experiences was snorkeling, now I do not mean snorkeling with many beautiful and colorful fish in the ocean to see multicolored corals, even though it was of course amazing, but I mean snorkeling with dolphins. Nobody ever forgets this experience. When you dive and see a group of 30-50 dolphins flying at incredible speed somewhere deep into the ocean ... really something unreal. Did you know that the night sky of the southern hemisphere is completely different from ours? Thanks to clear sky, we could convince ourselves about it. And I must not forget our experience of fishing. Although for some of us it was a "bigger" experience due to marine illness. In Mauritius, we also encountered many exotic species of birds and monkeys and extraordinary species of multicolored plants. Mauritius is just such a – relatively small – paradise on the earth, and our memories of it will remain in us for a long time.

Now I will give you some geographic information. Mauritius is an island state in the Indian Ocean, located about 900 km east of Madagascar. It consists of both a volcanic island of the same name with an area of 1 865 km² with a 330 km long coastline almost completely surrounded by a coral reef, and Rodrigues island, 108 km², 560 km northeast of the main island and several smaller islands. Two-thirds of the population are of Indian origin, the rest are predominantly sponges. Although the official language is English, the most widely used language is Morisien, the Creole language is based on French; the mother tongue is for 80% of the population, the rest of the population uses it as the second language of communication. In addition, the island speaks with various Indian dialects, French and Chinese. The French dominate by the media. Island cuisine is cosmopolitan, with a great emphasis on seafood, fish and a variety of tasty fruit. Mauritius is known for producing old boat models based on original plans and canine rum production. A familiar term related to Mauritius is also Red and Blue Mauritius. The scarcity of these stamps lies above all in the relatively small amount of this issue originally issued with the POST OFFICE. A year later, that is, in 1848, similar stamps were issued, but with the modified POST PAID, which better depicted the postage function of stamps. Of course, there are many more interesting things, but these are some sort of symbol and attribute to be remembered in connection with the word Mauritius.
