Prague Zoo and the first few photos with a new camera

25.6.2022 Czechia Fauna and Flora Review

There are countless reviews, tests, manuals for this camera on the Internet. I will only mention things that surprised or stopped me during his initial testing and setting, and which I have come across so far during that week.

  • when it was first unpacked, the camera made an interesting sound from the inside as it moved, similar to something relaxed
    • according to the company Canon and also according to the answers to the questions of other users on the Internet, it is absolutely fine, it is a movement of IBIS, respectively movement of the mechanical stabilization of the sensor
  • when shooting, you can choose between three shutter modes – mechanical, electronic on the 1st shutter and purely electronic
    • electronic looks luxurious at first glance (it is fast, completely inaudible), but only on closer examination and searching on the Internet you will find that it has "interesting" shortcomings that quite limit the desire for uncompromising quality (especially 12-bit RAW photos instead 14bit when using a mechanical shutter, images of fast-moving subjects may look distorted, bands of light may appear under fluorescent lighting or other flashing light sources, and last but not least, fast continuous shooting is so quiet and so fast when using fast continuous shooting that often you don't even know that you are taking photos, so you don't really have any feedback on how much you took)
    • when using the electronic shutter mode with the 1st shutter, the background of the photos may be strangely blurred due to the different distance between the sensor and the mechanical shutter
    • it follows that even at the cost of slower continuous shooting, it is best to use a mechanical shutter
  • I found that the relatively large effect on the quality (sharpness) of the resulting photos is also whether the preference of human or animal faces is set correctly

However, as is true of almost everything, the more a person takes photos and tries, the more he learns with the thing and the less something surprises him.
