Ruin of Ralsko Castle

16.11.2020 Czechia Amazing place of Czechia

November is such a gloomy month. And in the current situation, where you can't go anywhere and stay anywhere, you pay twice as much. But even at this time, there are days when this is not entirely true. And if an interesting place is added to it, then you have the day as if painted. And such places include, for example, the ruins of the castle Ralsko.

Ralsko (German Roll or Rollberg) is the ruins of a castle on the top of the hill of the same name, on the border of the cadastral area of Svébořice in the town of Ralsko and the cadastral area of Noviny pod Ralskem. From the ruins of the castle there is a good view of the distant surroundings; it is possible to see, for example, Ještěd, Hazmburk, Říp, the lookout tower on Vrátenská mountain near Kokořín, Bezděz, Hvozd, Luž, Jedlová and Klíč. It is not documented when the castle was exactly founded. After the original large castle, there is not much left to this day. On the rocky top of the wooded mountain are the remains of the walls, the remains of the ruins of two residential towers and part of the perimeter masonry of the palace and other buildings. Massive gable walls 5.6 meters thick have been preserved in some places. The castle has been protected since 1965 as a cultural monument. The upper part of the hill and the castle is included in the Ralsko nature reserve.
