The Brdy Protected Landscape Area was established only recently, specifically on 1 January 2016, but it was a bigger and more pleasant surprise for us. In the past, Střední Brdy was covered by a military training area, which was inaccessible to the public. And when the Brdy military district ceased to exist in 2016, the Brdy Protected Landscape Area was established in its place. As a result, many places have their original natural character, which has long been in decline in many other protected countries. Many newly created hiking trails will take you through an amazing landscape that you would not expect at all in such a place and moreover so close to Prague. It is actually such a small tourist paradise, which – unlike, for example, from the Šumava or the Giant Mountains – still not many people have discovered.

Brdy is divided into 3 geomorphological districts – Třemošenská vrchovina, Strašická vrchovina and Třemšínská vrchovina. The local division of Brdy has also been used, although it is still only auxiliary and unofficial, to Střední Brdy (sometimes also called Centrální Brdy) with the highest peak Tok (865 m) and nearby peaks Koruna (831 m), Jordán (826 m) and Prague (862 m). Near Příbram is the Třemošná mountain (778 m), one of the highest peaks accessible to tourists in Střední Brdy. And to the second part named as Jižní Brdy with the highest peaks Třemšín (827 m) and Nad Maráskem (805 m). Jižní Brdy is normally accessible for tourists.
