ZOO Dvůr Králové nad Labem – Africa in the heart of Europe

5.7.2013 Czechia Fauna and Flora

ZOO Dvůrr Králové is the second largest zoo in the Czech Republic. It is located in the western part of the city of Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Hradec Králové region (Trutnov district).
The zoo is mainly focused on African animals – this specialization was promoted in the 1960s by the then director Josef Vágner, who subsequently organized several expeditions to Africa and captured a large number of animals, especially ungulates (giraffes, zebras, antelopes, rhinoceroses, etc.) . Thanks to this, the importance of this garden already in the 1970s exceeded the borders of the former Czechoslovakia. Since 1989, modified tourist buses have been driving to the safari with visitors right among the animals, and since 2011 it is possible to do this route in your own cars.
