Hradec Králové (Königgrätz in German) is a statutory city in eastern Bohemia and the capital of the Hradec Králové region. It lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Orlice.

Due to its favorable characteristics, the territory of Hradec Králové was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The historic center of the city hides a unique panorama, where three architectural styles meet on the small area of the Great Square: the Gothic Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, the Renaissance bell tower called the White Tower and the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Although Hradec Králové lies mostly on a plain, it is not far from Orlické hory and Krkonoše National Park. There are several castles and chateaux with significant history nearby.
