Catch of Doubí pond
Fishing in ponds is a typical autumn joy, but above all worries and work. I had the opportunity to be present at the fishing of one of the many ponds in the vicinity of České Budějovice.
Harvesting is the process by which fishermen and their helpers, simply all those who participate in the harvest, move fish from the ponds. First, the water is drained from the pond, and then the actual fishing begins. The fish are caught either directly in the nets in the pond by hauling, or in the fishing ground, which can be directly in the pond or below the dam. The fish are then scooped up with scoops and kesers into portable tubs, carried into tubs, sorted, weighed and loaded onto a means of transport that will take them to their destination, mostly in crates, where they await their next fate. Part of the fish can then serve as a basis for further breeding, and part of them is intended for sale directly at the place of catch.
Fishing is rough and strenuous work, mainly due to the cold autumn weather and the constant direct contact of the fishermen with the water.
