České Budějovice in the dark

7.11.2009 Czechia Amazing place of Czechia

There is always something beautiful and unique about every city, each one has its own unique atmosphere. This unique atmosphere is multiplied even more after dark; nocturnal towns and villages thus acquire a magical charge. I tried to capture all this in my photographs among the streets of the city of České Budějovice. The photos show typical and lesser-known corners of this city.
Photography in the dark, like other branches of photography, has certain specifics. In the case of photographing static objects, it is probably best to use a tripod (together with a self-timer or a wired/remote shutter release), in situations or places where this is not possible, we do not need to be afraid to use high sensitivities, especially if we shoot in RAW format and then in some from the available programs, we will convert it to JPG format (the algorithms of the programs are so fine-tuned that they can be successfully used to edit these images without losing the desired quality). Of course, the solution is to use a flash, but then the photographed scene loses the magic I wrote about at the beginning. If we have the desire, effort and enough patience, but also a drop of luck; we know what, and especially how, we want to photograph it, we will receive the well-deserved reward and we will thus capture the unique atmosphere of the photographed city.
