Bastei and Lilienstein – Saxon Switzerland

6.10. – 7.10.2018 Germany Abroad

I wrote about Saxony in Switzerland shortly in this article. The beautiful natural scenery of the geomorphological formations of this area, the autumn of all colors and the splendid views of the surrounding countryside and the river beneath them, are among the unforgettable experiences for which there is no need to go far from Bohemia.

Bastei (305 m above sea level) is a rock formation with many observation platforms situated on the right bank of the Elbe between the spa town of Rathen and the town of Stadt Wehlen. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Saxon Switzerland.

Lilienstein is a 415-meter-high table top overlooking the River Elbe. It is located near Waltersdorf, 15 km east of Pirna and 5 km west of Bad Schandau. The River Elbe on three sides surrounds it. There is a 16-meter obelisk on the top platform.
