Svatojánské proudy | St John's Rapids

13.7.2014 Czechia Amazing place of Czechia

The section of the Vltava between Štěchovice and the village of Třebenice (Slapy dam) was referred to as St John's Rapids, where the river flowed through a deep rocky valley and formed rapids. Today, the area is flooded by the Štěchovice water reservoir.
The St John's Rapids was flooded after the construction of the Štěchovice waterworks, the smaller remaining part was then flooded by the Slapy reservoir a few years later.
