Drábské světničky

19.4.2014 Czechia Amazing place of Czechia

One of those other wonderful places located in the territory of the Czech Republic is the location called Drábské světničky. Drábské světničky are the ruins of a rock castle located in the cadastral territory of Olšina in the district of Mladá Boleslav about 4 km northeast of Mnichovo Hradiště in the protected landscape area of the Bohemian Paradise. This independent fortress was built on the northwestern edge of the plateau called the Castle in the area of the Příhrazské skály. The ruin stands at a height of 86 – 141 meters above the Jizera river. It is a fortress system of small chambers that are excavated in the sandstone rock. The place was already inhabited in the 13th century, but the original castle disappeared, and the creation of the preserved castle thus dates back to the first quarter of the 15th century. According to archaeological research, the Drábské světničky are a separate fortress built on seven sandstone blocks, separated by narrow gaps and crevices, which thus form a perfect system of underground spaces, carved out of the easily workable local sandstone.
