Bohemian Switzerland National Park

26.7. – 29.7.2012 Czechia Amazing place of Czechia

I already wrote about the Bohemian Switzerland National Park in this article about three quarters of a year ago. Back then, I described the Kamenice River pilgrimage to this and not only this magical place in the Czech Republic. Part of this unique part of the country, however, is a much more unusual place, and that is Pravčická brána. A very attractive tourist location with the Pravčická brána is located near the village of Hřensko in the district of Děčín.

The Pravčická brána (Prebischtor in German) is a national natural monument. It is a rock arch 16.5 m wide and 16 m high created in sandstone. This size makes it the largest natural sandstone rock gate in Europe. The Pravčická brána is formed by one arch, which measures 26.5 m at the base of the pillars with a height from the base to the vault reaching 16 m, the width of the gate varies between 7 and 8 m. The narrowest point of the gate is only 3 m thick. The top platform of the gate is above the ground at a height of 21 m. In 1982, the entrance to Pravčická brána was closed to the public and the gate was reinforced with a special mixture with resin, which should slow down erosion. Marked hiking trails lead to Pravčická brána, it is easily accessible from Mezní Louka and Hřensko.
