Hamburg

15.7. – 19.7.2012 Germany Abroad

In the Czech Republic, there are not many opportunities to see large ships with your own eyes, and certainly not huge ocean freighters or tourist colossuses. These iron giants of the sea can only be seen in countries located by the sea or ocean, and even that is not a guarantee that you will see the really big ones. And even in Europe there are not many cities that can boast of large ports. On the contrary, the German city of Hamburg is one of those that is famous for its port.
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and at the same time one of the city states of this state. Hamburg is located in the north of Germany on the lower reaches of the Elbe at the mouth of the North Sea. The Port of Hamburg is of course the largest port in Germany, but it is also the second largest port in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The city has 1.74 million inhabitants and covers an area of 755.16 km². Thanks to its huge port, Hamburg is a really unusual and interesting place for a Central European. It is definitely worth a visit.
