GEN ROSSO – musical Streetlight – České Budějovice

5.10.2011 Czechia Reportage

Streetlight is one of the latest projects of the Gen Rosso group. The musical is inspired by the true story of Charles Moates, an African-American boy who lived with his friend Jordan in "The Hole", a dangerous neighborhood in Chicago. Jordan is a member of a gang trying to control the neighborhood and is in love with Lisa, the sister of Trey, the head of the gang. Trey and his friends are in constant battle with the "Devil G" gang. During one of the shootouts between these gangs, Lisa is killed. Her death sparks a desire for revenge, and this situation has unexpected consequences. Charles plays in the music group "Streetligt", which tries to establish unity and peace in the place where they live and thus rehearse for a concert. Thanks to the decisions and example of Charles and his friends, Jordan gradually discovers new and unexpected horizons in his life. So the story is about the desire for revenge, forgiveness and the power to stand up for what we believe.
Gen Rosso was founded 40 years ago in Loppiano near Florence (Italy) on the initiative of Chiara Lubich, recipient of the UNESCO Peace Education Prize, who donated a red drum set (ROSSO in Italian) to a group of boys to convey the message of peace and universal brotherhood through music and thereby contributing to strengthening the unity of the world. Over the period of the group's existence, 200 artists from all over the world took turns in it.
