Makarska Riviera – Croatia

3.7. – 11.7.2020 Croatia Abroad

After a very long time we were on vacation in Croatia. And the truth is that at present, there is not much opportunity for a person from Central Europe to go anywhere else on holiday – and certainly not to the sea. Situation and possibilities where to go, thanks to the pandemic of the COVID-19 disease, it is allowed, resp. may not, change every week; and often from day to day. And I can say that Croatia is not really a bad place for a holiday at all. If you choose nice accommodation and plan the places you want to visit in the area or on the way, then that week will run like nothing.

I was in the south of Croatia for the first time in my life and I think probably not for the last time. In addition to the beautiful sea, great cuisine, nice people and interesting nature (for example Red, Blue, or Green Lake) we were most enchanted by the breathtaking view from the viewpoint "Skywalk Biokovo" located between the peaks of the mountain Biokovo. In the Biokovo mountains, in places above the resort of Makarska, there is a unique reinforced concrete structure, which is built on the edge of a cliff at the popular lookout point Ravna Vlaška at an altitude of 1228 meters above sea level. The horseshoe-shaped lookout has a glass floor, so the visitors see the abyss directly under their own feet. The sidewalk is 12 meters long and the total area of the glass floor is 40 square meters.

In summary, this whole area is actually very interesting. The whole area is known as the Makarska Riviera according to the port and tourist town of Makarska. Makarska Riviera is a strip of the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, about 60 kilometers long, but only a few kilometers wide. The Biokovo mountain range with the highest peak of Sveti Jure (1762 m above sea level) stretches inland at the nearby Bosnian border. The sunny climate and long pebble beaches make this area a popular tourist destination.
