Basel – Switzerland and Colmar – France
28.11. – 1.12.2014 Switzerland France Abroad
When we were thinking about where to go for the long Advent weekend this year, our choice fell on the Swiss city of Basel. The flight to Basel from Prague does not take long, about 80 minutes, but above all, according to a lot of information, one of the most beautiful Advent markets in all of Switzerland is held here every year. Not far from Basel, there is, among other things, the interesting town of Colmar, known for its half-timbered houses, which is located in France, but thanks to the unusual location of Basel, it is not far at all.
Basel is special because it lies on the border of three countries: Switzerland, France and Germany. In addition, it is also interesting that the airport in Basel is located on the territory of France, although Basel belongs to Switzerland, even though some of its peripheral parts extend into the above-mentioned countries.
In addition to the wonderful Christmas markets, we also visited the local ZOO in Basel and one day we took a train trip to the town of Colmar in France.
