Corfu – Greece

2.10. – 13.10.2008 Greece Corfu Abroad

Time flies like water and since summer is irrevocably behind us, I decided to put in the gallery photos from two areas where summer is a little longer after all and where the biggest tourist attraction is the sea. Those places are Corfu and Croatia.
The Greek island of Corfu is the seventh largest island of this country and, after Kefallonia, the second largest island of the Ionian Islands (592 km2, length 65 km, width from 4 to 30 km, 103 thousand inhabitants). The highest mountain is Pantokrator with its 906 meters. Corfu is a beautiful, very rugged island with flowering groves of olive trees and other subtropical and tropical plants. The north of the island is considerably more mountainous than the south, with many cliffs that in many places create completely closed off from the surroundings, but beautiful rocky or sandy beaches, which can often only be reached by boat. All these beautiful oases of tranquility are washed by amazingly clear seas with colorful marine life suitable for diving. The capital is Corfu (also Kerkyra). Due to its very varied history, the island has a large number of monuments and interesting places, e.g. the New Fortress, the Old Fortress, the Achilleion Summer Palace, the picturesque Kanoni Peninsula with the Pontikonissi Islet, etc.
